Spirit lamps

A controlled alcohol flame, and still the simplest way to soften wax at the chair.

Cotton roll holders

The point is not tidiness. It is not putting a gloved hand into a tub of cotton rolls.

A holder dispenses one roll at a time, which keeps the rest of the batch clean — and that is the difference between a stock of cotton rolls and a stock of contaminated cotton rolls.

Scaler tip adjustment keys

An ultrasonic scaler tip has to be torqued, not finger-tightened.

Two failure modes, both avoidable:

• Too loose — the tip does not resonate properly, cavitation drops, and you scale harder for less effect.
• Too tight — you damage the tip thread or the handpiece, which is the expensive end of the mistake.

The key exists to get it right. The GDC tip adjustment key is the torque tool for insert changes. Check it against your scaler's thread before ordering — tip fittings are not universal across every system.

Are dental accessories autoclavable?
